About Us

The purpose of  local Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) chapters is to provide members with a continuing source of information, to provide education, offer opportunities for CHMMs to maintain their certification, and to allow for a positive exchange of ideas.

When the Wisconsin chapter was formed, most of the Wisconsin CHMMs realized that they were  already part of a professional organization that was dedicated to professional  development, continuing education and highly regarded technical programs.

That organization, the Federation of Environmental Technologists (FET), had experience in conducting training and sponsoring technical programs, and was highly respected.  The Wisconsin CHMM /FET alliance was a natural merger and was recognized nationally in 1990.

FET was founded in 1982 and has conducted hundreds of technical seminars and workshops that help environmental professionals receive and share information.  FET also hosts a 3-day conference and exhibition in which CHMM members are given the opportunity to present original papers for certification maintenance points.

The Wisconsin CHMM Chapter sponsors an annual review course for CHMM  candidates in preparation for the exam.  Unofficial records indicate that over 80% of the individuals that have attended this review course have become CHMMs.

The level of recognition of FET by the Wisconsin DNR, the USEPA and other environmental professional reaffirms our reasons for a joint affiliation.
